* - Please contact the base manager if you want to fly on this day.  Unless you do so, the base manager may cancel the operation for lack of interest (This is Thanksgiving weekend)

Want to fly during the week?  Assuming the weather is favorable, you can do so.  However, be prepared to put in some effort to arrange at least a tow pilot beforehand, as well as an instructor if you need one.

The Mohawk Soaring Club schedules weekend operations at the Harriman & West airport in North Adams, MA from April through November with a base manager, instructor, and tow pilot assigned. These assignments will be listed above, and will also be available on the soaring hotline (518) 783-1018. Delays or cancellations due to weather or equipment problems will be available on the soaring hotline only. You should always check the hotline prior to departing for the field to ensure that operations have not been cancelled. The schedule is prepared by Jerry McCall (518) 783-3382. If there are any questions left unanswered by the hotline or a scheduling change is necessary, please contact Jerry. Students wishing to receive instruction should call the instructor the day before operations. If no students call the instructor, he or she is not required to be on the field.

BASE MANAGERS: It is your responsibility to coordinate your scheduled operation with the tow pilot and instructor. If you cannot work on the scheduled date, please arrange for a substitute; if no instruction is scheduled, make sure that your substitute is a licensed pilot. You should confer with both tow pilot and instructor if operations are uncertain before canceling operations. In some instances it may only be necessary to postpone the start of operations. If operations will be delayed or canceled, make sure you contact Jerry McCall (518/783-3382), and he will put your updates on the cyber phone. Ideally, updates will be made before 8:30 a.m. of the day of operations. Please be at the field between 10 and  11:00 a.m. Other members arriving earlier can commence necessary chores "to get things started." When you convene the pilots’ meeting, make sure you review the operating procedures. Pilots arriving later should ask someone about operating procedures for the day.

If instruction is scheduled, and if you need instruction, please call the instructor so that he will know that there is sufficient interest in coming out to the field for that day.  Do this even if you are the scheduled base manager.  Don’t assume that someone else will call the instructor.

Uncertain about scheduled operations for the upcoming weekend, or on the scheduled day itself? Check our website at http://mohawk.joelglickman.com or call our cyber line at: (518) 783-1018.
